Team
We would like to introduce you to our core team, the people you will be dealing with while we work on your assignments.
They are responsible for co-ordinating, planning and delivering your translations and will put you in touch with one
of our in-house team specialists if required.
The first points of contact are:
H. Bakker
Han Bakker read European Studies at the University of Amsterdam and studied German translation at the Institute for Interpreters and
Translators in Utrecht. Han is responsible for internal logistics, i.e. everyday co-ordination and scheduling, at our Amsterdam office.
J.M.J.R. Theuns B.Tr.
Ron Theuns studied German and English at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, Hogeschool Maastricht.
After graduating in 1987, he worked at Stork in Hengelo, where he was promoted to head of the translation department after two years.
He joined Balance in 1994 and is now its owner and managing partner. Ron is responsible for overall operational management,
for co-ordinating, scheduling and supervising translation work and for IT.
They then pass on your assignment to one of our language group managers:
Dr R.W.M. Verwaaijen
René Verwaaijen studied English language and literature at the University of Nijmegen and joined the university's academic staff after graduating.
He completed his dissertation (on American literature) in 1997. Before René joined Balance, he taught English at the Faculty of
Translation and Interpreting, Hogeschool Maastricht. René is head of the English language group.
J.M.J.G. Ringling Lic.
Jean-Marc Ringling, a native speaker of French, studied Philologie Germanique at the University of Liège, where he was awarded the title
"Maître en Traduction". He has been with Balance since 1995 and translates from Dutch and English into French. He is an experienced
translator of academic, commercial and legal texts. Jean-Marc is head of the French language group.
U. Senglaub B.Tr.
Uta Senglaub was born in Germany. She studied English and Dutch at Cologne University and received her Bachelor's in translation
from Hogeschool Maastricht, Faculty of Translation and Interpreting. Uta joined Balance in 2000. She specialises in technical
translation but is also a skilled generalist. Uta is the head of the German language group.
C.J. Groot B.Tr.
Ineke Groot graduated from Hogeschool Maastricht, Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, in 1987, specialising in English and French.
She worked for a general translation firm for six years and then spent ten years freelancing. Most of her work during this period was
from the European Commission. Ineke joined Balance in 2004 as head of the Dutch language group.
Responsible for financial, commercial and personnel matters:
S.J.M. Gijsen B.Tr.
Suzanne Gijsen studied at Hogeschool Maastricht, Faculty of Translation and Interpreting. She founded Balance together
with Gerd Weyers in 1983. Almost immediately following graduation, she focused on the logistics side of the organisation.
